Sorry I haven’t been active for a while, I had some thinking to do. Back to our talk on the key to success, we have said that education isn’t the key to success as it used to be a long time ago (or was it ever the key? Could it be just that those of old don’t actually know what success is and think education is the way to it?).
I think we should first know what to be successful means. It might shock you to know that to be successful doesn’t mean to be wealthy (I got you there, you thought success was only about money). In our generation of now, we have minimized success to be the possession of material things like money and the likes. Don’t get me wrong, I never said possessing money and other material things is bad, it isn’t just a measure of success. Is it success to have all the riches in the world without peace of mind? Are you successful when you have all you want but still live in fear? I want you to know that to be successful doesn’t mean to have all the money in the world.
I will also want you to know that to be successful does not mean to have the biggest mansion and drive the latest and most fancy car. A family that lives in their small three bedroom flat apartment can be said to be successful in life than a family that owns the biggest mansion in the city and the latest cars in town (Officer, I can explain myself)
I think this is where we get it wrong, success isn’t measured by things you can buy, and success isn’t directly proportional to the amount of wealth you have attained in life.
I will tell you what success is and then the key. Have you ever had a day, a day that ends with you on the bed with a smile on your face (Oh dear, I don’t mean the smile you put on when you are thinking of a girl, what is wrong with you?)? A day that you think I have accomplished all that needed to be accomplished for today? A day that ends with you going to bed with peace of mind?
Have you also had a day, a day in which you got all you want but still go to bed feeling incomplete? A day wherein you had everything you requested for but still go to bed without peace of mind?
If you can relate to the two illustrations above, which of these days can it be termed that you were successful?
What is wealth when you have no peace after getting it?
Don’t let anyone cheat you, success isn’t possessing money. If you let anyone make you believe that success is the mere possession of money and mere materials things then you will be badly cheated in life. You might have those things you desire to have but you will always see that there is no peace within.
Success is a state of total accomplishment. When I mean total accomplishment, I mean total fulfillment. A state wherein you know that when I die today, I die a happy man and not a state wherein you know that when I die today, I die to face the torment of fire and I die unhappy. Success is to be in that state where you look at your small family and burst out with laugh of joy (Don’t get me wrong here, you can also have all the wealth and still feel totally complete).
You can get all the money in the world and not be successful and you can also get all the money in the world and be successful.
Now, to the talk of the moment. What now is this key to success? Our society has cheated us into believing that going to school is the key to success. They have cheated us into believing that getting a white collar job is success. I have seen people who spent the important part of their lives working in a company, institute or firm but grow old filled with regrets and live on something they call “pension” (That’s not my business anyways).
The key to success is not something we can’t see, the key to success is you. Yes You. All you need to be successful have been planted in you, going to school is just to help you spice up all you already have. Think of that small thing you can do so well, yes that thing, no matter what it is, just think of it, no matter how useless you think it is. That small thing you think is useless, aren’t you surprise you can do it and some other can’t do it? Aren’t you surprise some people struggle to learn it meanwhile it just flow from you like water? Don’t you think that’s is your key to success?
Start thinking today, I can do this, how do I make it big? Write down your goals (please, don’t let your goal be getting employed in Baba Rojus block industry or other industries), start small, and don’t rush. Take at least a step towards your goal every day. You might fail at some point but that’s why it is success, failure help you spice up your success story. The only time you are a complete failure is when you finally give up. You might have a white collar job to help you gather resources to start your own institute, firm, industry or any other. Don’t think on being employed forever, that isn’t success, the key to success is in your hands. Don’t also forget to add God into your something small, let God lead you and direct you, be faithful to God.
I just thought of something, some funny friends might want to say “Gabi, I can steal very well, that’s the small thing I can do. I hope it will bring me success?” Remember what I said earlier, success isn’t about getting rich, it is about getting rich and having peace, it is about getting rich and feeling complete and it is about getting all you want without living in fear.
